A local company with a large refrigeration system stripped & re-insulated 230 metres of ammonia pipe.
The total cost was $21,570 + gst.
They subsequently estimated that simply by being able to run one less compressor after the insulation was renewed they would save that amount in electricity in just one year.

Another company had over 200m of un-insulated hot water pipe through a ceiling space. In winter especially hoses were left running just so the hot water was there on demand.
The resulting loss of water (that had to be paid for as well as the electricity to pump it) and coal usage to heat the water was exorbitant.
Once insulated for $9,600 + gst the cost was recouped through coal, water and electricity savings in only 9 months.
More importantly these savings are ongoing.
